United States and Canada Foundations

Western has been a long supporter of giving back to the industry and through these two foundations, Western is able to raise funds to provide scholarships for those taking training or courses to enter the industry. Each year scholarships are awarded across all regions to aspiring individuals that are the future of the industry. Western hosts a number of events to raise funds for the scholarship program. To learn more select the foundation of interest below.

Our foundations accept annual donations in all denominations. These donations will be used as matching funds for scholarships and other programs or for general operating expenses of WEDF or CEDF. By raising funds, we can help members get one step closer to filling dealership vacancies. If you have questions, please contact Olivia Holcombe regarding the WEDF (800-762-5616) or Larry Hertz regarding the CEDF (800-661-2452).

Western Equipment Dealers Foundation (WEDF)

The Western Equipment Dealers Foundation was formed to provide funding for charitable purposes related to the shortage of properly trained technicians for our equipment members. The Foundation’s mission is to continue our support for the WEDA Industrial and Farm Equipment Technician Program at OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and to establish scholarship programs at post-secondary education institutions for deserving students and member employees interested in pursuing a degree program relative to the equipment industry.

Purpose of the WEDF:
  • To create educational programs for dealers and their employees
  • To establish scholarship programs at post-secondary educational institutions
  • For public awareness campaigns to promote the industry to the general public
  • To conduct research on related topics within the industry
Fundraising Events:

Each year the foundation puts the Summer and Fall Classic golf tournaments to raise funds for the foundation.

Fundraising Initiatives:

Over $90,000 has been raised to date through fundraising events.  Over $70,000 has been raised and spent in program spending. Our goal is to reach $1 million in endowments.

Canada

Canada Equipment Dealers Foundation (CEDF)

The Canada Equipment Dealers Foundation (CEDF) was founded in 1998, after recognizing a shortage of properly trained dealership employees.  The Canada West Equipment Dealers Association established the CEDF to provide educational programs and services for agricultural, industrial and outdoor power equipment dealers across Canada.  The support for the CEDF continues with the creation of the Western Equipment Dealers Association.

The CEDF is operated by a group of volunteer dealers and association staff who coordinate the foundation’s activities.  A Board of Directors that are appointed by the Western Equipment Dealers Association (WEDA) governs the CEDF.

Purpose of the CEDF:
  • To create educational programs for dealers and their employees
  • To establish scholarship programs at post-secondary educational institutions
  • For public awareness campaigns to promote the industry to the general public
  • To conduct research on related topics within the industry

Since its inception, we have raised over $1.1 million in pledges and commitments for dealership specific educational programs and scholarships.

The CEDF is a registered charitable foundation established under Revenue Canada guidelines and policy.  As such, all donations to the CEDF are eligible to receive a receipt for income tax purposes. All funds that are raised in western Canada are allocated for the benefit of western Canadian equipment dealers.

Fundraising Events:

Western Equipment Dealers Association holds four annual golf tournaments to raise funds for the Canada Equipment Dealers Foundation (CEDF). Additional fundraisers for the CEDF are held at WEDA’s annual conference.

The Private Label Program

The Private Label Program allows for the creation of a scholarship endowment under your dealership name at a post-secondary educational institution for a dealership rated program.  All donations will be matched by the CEDF.  The sponsoring dealer can direct the funds toward a post-secondary educational institution and dealership related program of their choice.

This program is intended to take advantage of matching funds that are available from provincial governments and college foundations.  It is a great way to recognize a dealership or a long-term dealer principal.  Minimum contribution is $5000.

Life Insurance Program

In partnership with Federated Insurance of Canada, a Life Insurance Program has been established which allows the policyholder to designate the CEDF as a beneficiary. The policyholder determines the amount of the policy and pays the premium on an annual basis.  This program is designed to provide the foundation with a long-term funding source.

Annual Donation

The CEDF accepts annual donations in all denominations.  These donations will be used as matching funds for other donation programs or for general operating expenses of the CEDF.

Please note:  A group of current and former dealers have volunteered their time to raise funds for the CEDF. If you are interested in participating in this worthwhile venture, please contact the WEDA office.
